Back after 20 years, Mike sweeps to Clubman win

Whitby’s British Championship and Beta rider Andy Chilton finished third at the Scarborough and District Motorcycle Club’s trial at Harwood Dale on Sunday.

Five marks lost on the steep climb of the fourth section when the Beta back wheel slid away on the angled rock cost Chilton second place as winner Adam Milner and Guy Kendrew both cleaned.

Also from Whitby, Mike Noble – returning to the trials scene after an absence of 20 years – showed no real signs of rust and won Clubman B class with a solid ride from fellow Whitby rider Dave Chilton, who just couldn’t match the consistency of Noble and had to settle for runner up.

Port Mulgrave’s Fenton Howell also found time for a ride out to finish eighth, while looking after dad Ted from Staithes. Ted started his career – and his love of bikes – back in the 50s.
