KIERAN Howard came to second-placed Fylingdales’ rescue on Saturday just when they looked to have themselves with too much to do against Great Habton in Division B of the Derwent Valley League.
The visitors were put into bat and scoring at a steady three an over, found themselves at 72/2 at the halfway stage.
As they tried to accelerate the run-rate in the second half of their innings, wickets started to fall and they were all out for 158 in the 36th over,
Ben Hogarth took 6-22 including three wickets for four runs in the final over.
The top scorers for Great Habton were Richardson on 48, Durrant on 33 and Lumley on 30.
Fylingdales started badly with both openers gone by the fourth over with just 14 runs on the board.
John Beech (24) and Chris Shrimpton (34) moved the score along but by the mid-way point the score was 85/5.
Needing around four an over to win, Fylingdales started to struggle.
With the score on 133/7 in the 34th over, Kieran Howard came to the crease and cracked the ball to all corners of the ground, scoring an unbeaten 26 to see Fylingdales home with 11 balls to spare.
The pick of the Great Habton bowlers were Garritty with 3-43 and Curtis 3-53.
