A Whitby school pupil starred in the Drax Cup final at Headingley and enjoyed VIP treatment in the county members’ bar.
Harry Mothersdale’s team Lingfield Primary School, on the outskirts of Middlesbrough, who won the North Yorkshire schools section, arrived at the finals at Yorkshire county HQ against East, West and South Yorkshire winners.
Lingfield drew West Yorkshire in the semi-final and came out on top, winning by 20 runs.
They met well-fancied South Yorkshire in the final who batted first and set Lingfield a high target of 80.
They only fell short by 30 runs so South Yorkshire took the Drax Cup Final cup.
Harry’s dad Ste Mothersdale, who also managed Whitby RFC football team, said: “It was a great day and all the teams were very sporting and encouraged each and every one.
“They were treated to lunch in the members’ bar and met most of Yorkshire players who warmed up next to them on the Headingley ground.”
The presentation took place in the members’ bar and the players enjoyed complimentary tickets to watch the Yorkshire v Durham t20 match.
