The 12-year-old turns out regularly for Whitby under-14s and Ravenscar 2nds, but when the chance of a trial with Yorkshire CCC came up last year she knew she’d have to raise her game.

Daisy, who also plays football for Scarborough Ladies under-12s football team, impressed the coaches and enjoyed a spectacular first season with the White Rose girls.

This was topped when her teammates voted her their player of the year and YCC Ladies’ chairman Richard Jones selected her for the chairman’s award.

That was all in front of the Ladies’ County Championship winning first team, complete with international stars.

Daisy’s first season with Yorkshire saw the family travelling all over the country to watch her play, but while the rising star was at the crease swinging her bat, dad Jon was back in the pavilion totting up the cost of kit, days off work and fuel for the car.

“We had a fantastic year watching Daisy play”, he said.

“She always has a smile on her face and we’re extremely proud of her.

“It’s certainly worth all the travelling, but training starts again soon and Whitby is a long way from Headingley – the costs soon mount up so we’re very grateful for this £100 of support from Yorkshire Coast Homes.”

The Yorkshire Coast Homes Sports Bursary Scheme provides funding support for people within our communities, who may be excluded from sporting activities for reasons of cost.

Potential beneficiaries may be individuals who are wishing to engage in a sporting activity for the first time, or those who are already established within their sport but are hoping to progress to a higher level.

The objective of the YCH Bursary Scheme is to provide support to those who are prevented from achieving these objectives, due to their personal financial limitations.
