Whitby Town’s eight surviving heroes who played for the club at Wembley in the 1965 Amateur Cup final were reunited on Saturday.

Fifty years on from playing for the Blues at the grandest stage of all, the players were welcomed back to the club as VIP guests for the day and inspired the current side to a 2-0 over Ashton which means they are safe from relegation.

Captain Eddie Barker said he could recall the Wembley game clearly, as well as the huge turnout to welcome them back to Whitby, with video clips of the games shown in the club house.
