Last weekend saw the end of the road for the Eskvale and Cleveland League’s representatives in this year’s North Riding Saturday Challenge Cup as both Boosbeck and Lealholm fell to home defeats.
Boosbeck hosted Brooklyn who had beaten Brotton on penalties in the previous round but they were comfortably beaten 5-1 as they bowed out, while Lealholm lost 3-1 against West Pier of Scarborough.
In league action, Great Ayton’s pitch fell foul of the frost and with deep ruts in the pitch the game was called off after an early inspection.
Lingdale remain top of the table but were given an almighty scare by basement side Lakes United as the visitors scored twice in the opening five minutes.
After this wake-up call, Lingdale got their game together and scored seven times to lead at the interval and went on to score six more without reply in the second half to win 13-2.
Jonny Kirk scored five times with Anthony Jones scoring three, Paul Jack and Mark Ward with two each and David Sayers making up the Lingdale total.
The remaining game saw Loftus host Brotton and the teams shared six goals as honours ended even with Mark Harris grabbing a brace for Loftus with Liam Say adding the other while Paul Agar scored twice for Brotton with Robert Ovington adding the Brotton third.
