Under nines keep record going

THE weather played a significant factor in Sunday’s game as strong winds made play difficult for both sides.

Fishburn under nines kicked off with the wind behind them in the first half and capitalised with a well-taken goal from H Best, who threaded his way through the Brompton defence and finished with a well hit shot.

The Brompton defence found it difficult to clear the ball into the strong wind and midway through the first half a Brompton clearance was returned from outside the box by J Collier with a well-struck shot for Fishburn’s second.

Brompton attacks were few and far between but their strikers were quick off the mark when the ball made it up front.

However, the Fishburn defence of Humble, Burnett and Hutchinson put paid to any threats.

Towards the end of the first half again the Brompton defence had trouble clearing the ball, allowing Finn to net a well-deserved third goal.

The away side were unable to use the wind to their advantage, as the Fishburn defence coped well with any attacks and the forwards sensibly kept the ball on the floor and put some good moves together.

Hewison provided some good crosses and keeper Henshaw maintained a clean sheet.

The second match was hard-fought with both teams finding conditions difficult but forwards of Puckrin, Best and White kept the pressure on to get a first half goal for Fishburn.

A good defensive performance from Skilbeck,Wood and Bowman could not prevent Brompton levelling when they had the wind behind them with Homer making some good saves.
