Fishburn Park under nines scaled new heights this week when they extended their unbeaten run to 15 games, emulating European greats Real Madrid 1960-61 season and Bayern Munich 2005-6 season.
On a beautiful day, Fishburn entertained Tollersby Park and from the off, the Whitby side piled on the pressure and had the run of the first half.
The lads kept possession for most of the half and kept the Tollersby keeper busy but good defending managed to keep Fishburn from scoring.
Late in the first half, a Tollersby throw-in was intercepted by Hewison who threaded his way through the defence and a well-placed shot beat the keeper to open the scoring.
The defensive trio of Humble, Hutchinson and Collier were again steadfast having to deal with an attacking Tollersby front line who had plenty of pace. It was hard to believe that with all the possession Fishburn had, the first half ended at just 1-0.
The second half saw Fishburn kick off and apply more pressure but a quick break from Tollersby saw a beautifully hit shot from the right hit the crossbar, although keeper Henshaw had the ball covered.
The Fishburn front trio Finn, Burnett and Hewison continued to keep the defence busy and after a scramble in the Tollersby area the ball came to Finn who placed the ball low past the keeper for Park’s second.
A well-worked short corner saw the ball at Finn’s feet and a beautifully struck shot flew past the defence to give Finn his second of the match to seal Fishburn victory.
Man of the match: Hutchinson.

The second match had Tollersby fielding the same team as the first match and from the off, the away side applied pressure but Bowman, Wood and Skillbeck stood firm.
Eventually, the Tollersby attack found a way through and beat stand-in keeper Hewison.
The second half saw Fishburn up the pressure but in an end-to-end game, Tollersby latched onto a poor clearance and got an early second half goal.
Fishburn’s persistence paid off with Best running from deep in the half to go solo and get his first goal.
Best, Puckrin and White worked hard against a physical Tollersby defence but a quick break by Tollersby late in the half saw their third in the net. Fishburn did not lie down and came back with another well-taken goal from Best but Tollersby were not finished either and scored their fourth just before the end.
Man of the match: Puckrin.
