Tigers edge out Cayton while Sleights seal Pier success

Last season’s Junior Cup runners-up Lealholm visited Scarborough and edged out Cayton Athletic 4-3 to progress in the competition.

After 15 minutes Lealholm’s keeper Tobi Fergus saved his third penalty of the season when Macauley Riley’s kick was kept out.
Five minutes later the visitors took the lead when a Sam Russell corner found Will Stewart-Cross to head in.
Dylan Swales scored with a half-volley to double his side’s lead after 25 minutes and the Tigers seemed to be in complete control.
Cayton lost their keeper Steven Robinson with a serious ear injury on the half-hour mark, the host’s gloveman going to Scarborough Hospital, but three minutes later Cayton scored when following a Freddie Schmuck corner, Adam Smith scored to give the hosts hope of a comeback at 2-1 going into the interval.
In the second half a Josh Hodgson corner was flicked on by Loui Fergus for Cayton’s Sam Raper to head the ball into his own goal after 53 minutes to make it 3-1 to the travelling Tigers.
Nine minutes later the goal of the game saw Lealholm’s Soni Fergus score after a neat one-two with Arron Leeman.
Cayton weren’t done yet though and scrambled their second goal through Josh Venner and 10 minutes from time they scored a third goal – an own goal to set up a nervous last 10 minutes for the visitors.
The Beckett League champs held firm though to seal their progression.
Soni Fergus was the star man for Lealholm.
Lealholm visit Thirsk Falcons in the NRCFA Saturday Challenge Cup this weekend.
Sleights entertained West Pier Reserves with Sleights worthy 6-3 winners.
Chris Warrior slammed in a hat-trick to send Sleights on their way to victory.
There was also a goal each for Charlie Smith, Marc Kipling and Adam Entwhistle on his debut this season.
Zac Hansen scored a brace for Pier plus an own goal, but Sleights ran out winners to move into the next round of the competition.
Man of the match went to hat-trick hero Warrior.
Sleights travel to Redcar Athletic Reserves in the NRCFA Saturday Challenge Cup tomorrow.
Fishburn Park bounced back from their North Riding Senior Cup exit midweek with a 7-2 thumping of Stokesley AFC in the North Riding Football League Premier Division.
Sam Richardson blasted four goals, with Jimmy Organ-Simpson, Adam Warrilow and co-manager Mark Waterfield also on target for the Whitby side.
Lewis Wilson and Liam Beadnall replied for the away outfit.
Fishburn host Guisborough Town Reserves this weekend.
Thornaby Dubliners opened up a five-point cushion at the top of the North Riding Premier Division after a 4-0 success at Staithes Athletic.
The unbeaten leaders notched through James Tattersfield, Anton Buchan, Tom Atkinson and Russell Spence.
Staithes travel to New Marske for a league clash on Saturday.
Whitby Fishermens play Loftus Athletic in the NRCFA Saturday Challenge Cup tomorrow.
Eastfield Athletic continued their fine form with a 3-1 home victory against Fishburn Park Reserves.
Daniel Thomas opened the scoring for Athletic with a goal direct from a corner on 14 minutes and just before half-time Nathan Sutherland’s wind-assisted effort also sailed in.
Billy Arnold pulled a goal back for Park, but sub Dave Leather restored Athletic’s lead with a third goal with his first touch of the game after coming on as a sub, rolling back the years with a great finish.
Fishburn host Newlands Reserves tomorrow.
Goldsborough travel to Ayton, while Fylingdales welcome West Pier on Sunday.
