Thirteen lucky for Whitby footballers

Whitby RFC thumped Scalby Reserves to go second in divison three of the Scarborough and District League.

The away side had previously called off a meeting between the two teams earlier in the season due to lack of players and this time turned up with just 10.

They probably regretted it as they were 1-0 down after only 20 seconds courtesy of Damon Craig and straight from kick-off, the home side scored again through Watson to make it 2-0 after only 125 seconds.

The home side domianted possession and further goals were added by Rhucroft - whose weak shot found a way past the Scalby keeper - Craig, Hogarth, who thumped in from a seemingly impossible angle.

Brennan’s corner was fumbled into his net by the away keeper and Watson scored twice more as the home side led 8-0 at the interval.

Fish in the Whitby RFC goal called upon only once the entire half where he made a superb save to deny Scalby any consolation.

The second half saw Whitby RFC make a few changes and five more goals be added through Rhucroft, Craig and Watson who all completed their trebles.

Mike Kilpatrick and Stuart Hancock also got in on the act as the score finished 13-0 thanks to a totally dominant display from the home side.

Credit must go to Scalby who battled on with their 10 men until the end.
