Sunday League: Ryan’s magnificent seven sinks ‘Dales

Cooper, who is running the Sunday team along with Ben Luntley this season, scored two goals on his debut for Pickering Town on Saturday in a 5-4 win at Armthorpe Welfare, so his seven-goal haul this morning capped a great two days for the former Snainton forward.

Also on target for the hosts at Snainton were Stew Bates, with his 150th goal for the club, Ryan’s younger brother Sam, debutant Niall Gibb and Jack Hakings, whose 25-yard shot flew into the top corner after a great move in the goal of the game.

Gibb and fellow new recruit Kyle May shared the man of the match award for the victors.

Jamie Patterson scored all four goals as Trafalgar continued their winning start to the season with a 4-0 home success against first division new boys Commercial.

The central midfielder scored the only goal of the first half with a header, and then scored a fine volley after the interval to double Traf’s lead.

A second header from Patterson completed his hat-trick and the Pikes star rounded the Commercial keeper and netted with his left foot to seal the win.

As well as the outstanding Patterson, right-back Gary Jordan impressed for Traf, with player-boss Liam Salt having to play in goal.

Commercial boss Geoff Osguthorpe was full of praise for his side: “We had four recognised first-teamers who let me down on the morning, so we had to go and grab some replacements, and one of these, Mike Hyde was probably our best player at centre-back alongside Joe Bayes. When we let in the three second-half goals in quick succession I feared the worst but I was happy with the way we rolled our sleeves up and kept it down to 4-0.”

Klosters dug deep to record a 3-1 win at West Pier.

Dan Peel converted Richard Simpson’s left-wing cross inside 10 minutes to mark his debut with the opening goal of the game.

Peel struck again before half-time after Neil Fryirs teed him up.

Pier began the second half strongly and Cameron Dobson forced a stunning save out of Navid Ranji just a minute after the re-start.

Dobson was not to be denied though and beat the visitors’ offside trap to lob home for 2-1 moments later.

The home side dominated the next 25 minutes but could not find an equaliser and Fryirs made the game safe for Klosters when he tapped into an empty net after Peel’s effort came back off the post.

Klosters player-manager Rhys Howell said: “We weren’t at our best today. Pier played the better football and we had a bit of good luck but we worked hard showed a lot of character too.

“Everyone played their part but Dan Peel took his goals well and Navid Ranji made some really important saves.”

First-half goals from man of the match Mikey Pickering (2) and Rob Dixon put the home side in front, but the visitors were unlucky to be trailing as they put a lot of work in despite being one man down.

These efforts bore fruit after the interval with Paul Brady and Mikey Anderson netting before the hour mark and it looked like the 10 men could earn at least a point thanks to their energetic display.

The home side then stepped up a gear, with a cracking strike from Paul Oldroyd and a second from Dixon putting It is It is in control again, and another long-range strike from Oldroyd and a tap-in from Adam Linley completing the scoring.

Scarborough Spa secured their first-ever win, triumphing 2-1 in a second division game at Ayton.

An own goal put the visitors in front in the 15th minute, but Tom Wilde then forced in a Chris Milburn corner to level the scores.

Wilde then shot straight at the Spa keeper from close-range and after the interval he also shot over the top in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper.

Sam Whitehead also blazed over when well-placed for Ayton and Mike Grayshan shot wide when left with an empty net.

The hosts paid the price for these missed chances when the youthful Spa side netted all three points thanks to a great free-kick from Jack Gates in the 84th minute.

Spa boss Grace Cooper said: “The lads all played superbly and it was great to get a first win on the board.

“The man of the match has to be given to all of them as they all played their part in the win.”

Heslerton scored three times in the final 15 minutes to earn a dramatic 4-4 draw at Cayton Corinthians.

Left-winger Josh Venner fired Cayton in front after 20 minutes and a neat finish from Harry Holden made it 2-0 to the hosts, Gareth Driver pulling a goal back for the visitors before half-time.

Star man Venner struck again to restore Cayton’s two-goal lead after half-time, and a cracking 25-yard strike into the top corner of the net from new signing Tom Fennell in the 75th minute looked to have tied up the three points for Cayton.

Heslerton had other ideas and five minutes later they pulled it back to 4-2 thanks to a 25-yard scorcher from Heslerton man of the match Josh Bown.

This sparked the visitors into life, Billy Bown, Josh’s older brother, adding a third to set up a thrilling finale, and with the last kick of the game, 16-year-old Robert Green scored the leveller for Heslerton.

Trafalgar Reserves maintained their 100 per cent start to the season with a hard-earned 6-1 win at Scarborough Sports Barrowcliff.

Pickering Town’s Billy Logan and his brother Joe were among the replacements drafted in by Traf player-boss Andy Noon due to six players being unavailable, and this proved to be crucial as Billy netted a hat-trick and Joe also notched for the visitors.

Billy Logan scored from the spot to put Traf ahead and Mikey Barker latched onto a long pass to make it 2-0 at the interval but Noon admitted that the Barrowcliff side provided his team with their biggest challenge so far this season.

A Jack Pinder goal and a second Billy Logan penalty put the visitors clear after half-time, Joe Logan hitting the fifth and his brother completing his hat-trick with the goal of the game, a fierce 18-yard strike across goal and into the top corner of the net.

Noon praised his whole team for rising to the challenge while Sports keeper Callum Myers pulled off a string of spectacular saves to earn the star man award for Tony Walker’s team.

Fylingdales Reserves surged to a 7-0 home win against The Alma, with Lewis Peel smashing in four goals for the hosts.

Eddy Agnew, Ben Thompson and Ben Gale also netted for the hosts, who had keeper Dan Smith on top form.

Richard Malton was the only player to shine for a below-par Alma.

West Riding surged to a 11-1 home win against a depleted Roscoe’s Bar.

Curtis Rose and Josh Young scored a hat-trick apiece, with James Seymour also netting a brace.

Harry Pollard, Jack South and Luke Jones also netted for James Prethero’s team, with Liam Buglass their man of the match.

Oli Morfitt’s goal was the only highlight for the visitors.

Newlands Park Reserves romped to a 15-1 home success against Hull University.

Ryan Sanderson blasted in eight goals for Dave Gaddass’ side while Lewis Weller scored the perfect hat-trick - a left-footed strike, a header and a right-footed finish.

Teenager Jamie Deyes, Dan Sheader, 16-year-old defender Ellis Sellers and sub Ryan Goodworth all grabbed a goal each, Sellers’ goal a towering header at the back post.

Sanderson shared the man of the match award with Dean Andrews, the former Cayton man claiming eight assists in a great creative display.
