STAITHES fought all the way in a competitve local derby before losing out to Loftus Athletic on Saturday.

Playing some adventurous football, chances were created for by Peel, Sivills and Starsmore, but resolute defending by the Staithes defence, along with some great saves from Sanderson, saw the game at deadlock at half-time.

Staithes turned the game around in the second half and were the stronger team, but with the Loftus midfield working hard and their defence strong, Staithes couldn’t create any significant efforts.

The deadlock was broke when a good midfield move from Loftus, released Harry Hume wide on the left and his pinpoint cross was headed brilliantly home by Steve Starsmore.

The game continued at a good pace with both sides looking for goals but Loftus won the points.
