STAITHES played this game at Loftus as their ground was being prepared for the cricket season.

A flurry of goals came in the first 20 minutes with the game played at a frenetic pace.

Hollybush, playing with the wind in the first half, dominated a lot of the ball but the hard pitch and blustery wind the players found it difficult to keep the ball on the ground.

James Armstrong and Gary Gilding scored for Staithes with a Mark Thompson penalty and a Tony Lannon strike leaving the half all square.

Staithes picked up their game in the second half, but had Gareth Shotton to thank for two brilliant tackles to prevent Hollybush players scoring.

James Armstrong for Staithes was buzzing around, causing the Hollybush defence problems and he notched a second goal from a well-taken corner.

Jeff Morrison latched on to the cross to hit a bullet header to give the Hollybush keeper no chance and when Gary Smithies produced a clever back flick, the game was won for Staithes.
