Staithes Athletic hosted Teesside League second division promotion-chasers Redcar Town who had won all but one league game this season.
In a game of good quality it was a fortunate single goal after just five minutes that settled the game.
After a Redcar move seemed to have fizzled out, a mix-up in the home defence led to panic and Dan Evans cleared the ball against the incoming Ben Sandie and it ricocheted into the corner of the net.
The goal seemed to knock the home team and it was the visitors who began to dominate the game in both possession and territory missing a couple of good chances to make it two.
As the half went on, the home team began to get back into it and had a couple of half chances to equalise but the score remained 0-1 at the break.
In contrast to the first half, it was the home team who started much the better and took the game to the Redcar for the majority of the second half.
In some ways, Staithes were unlucky not to get something from the game for their effort.
But a combination of a well marshalled visitors defence and a home team lacking any confidence in front of goal kept clear chances to a minimum at both ends and the visitors saw out the game to take the three points.
The home team again showed a good spirit and worked hard, but the goals have dried up at the wrong stage of the season.
