SLEIGHTS booked their place in the Frank White Trophy semi-finals after defeating Falsgrave for the third time this season, on Saturday.
Jim Howard’s men have now also reached double figures thrice, thanks to a commanding display, which saw Mark McCarthy complete back-to-back hat-tricks.
In a match switched to Caedmon School, after heavy rain in Filey, it was McCarthy who began the rout, firing home after just five minutes.
Lee Brennan doubled the Sleights advantage before McCarthy lashed in a third, nine minutes later.
However, the newly-formed strugglers had a lifeline following a 22nd minute penalty, but they narrowed the lead for just two minutes, before Ben Watson cracked in his 28th goal of the season, for 4-1.
The impressive Marc Kipling’s 14-minute brace gave the villagers breathing space before the break, despite Falsgrave pulling back a second late in the half. McCarthy was then on the spot, seconds before half-time, to complete his treble and make it 7-2 at the interval.
Howard took the opportunity to make changes in the second half, but his side still notched four more goals, after the break.
Just 12 minutes into the restart, midfielder James Fawcett was on target and Brennan notched his second, halfway through the second period.
Late on, it was the turn of Ian Smith to get in on the act, with two goals in the last six minutes for the former Fishburn Park player ensuring a crushing victory.
Sleights will now tackle promotion rivals Athletico2B in the semi-finals, after Christmas.
There is still a chance of a local derby final, if Whitby Rugby Club can overcome Ayton Reserves, with Cayton Reserves awaiting the winner in the last four.
