FISHBURN Park’s record-breaking under nines have had a letter congratulating them on their heroics from none other than Sir Alex Ferguson.
Coach Adam Bell got in touch with the Manchester United supremo after the juniors broke keeper Edwin van der Sar’s record of 12 clean sheets in a row.
They were delighted when Fergie took time out from spearheading his latest assault on the Premier League title to offer the following words: “It is always good to hear about clubs at the grass roots of football, and it never ceases to amaze me the enthusiasm and dedication of everyone connected with a small club gives.
“Keep up the work and dedication in training and you will be rewarded.”
The under nines, top of the Teesside Junior Alliance in their age bracket, went on to record 16 consecutive shut-outs before their mean defence was finally breached in their last game.
The lads had no match this past Sunday.
