The boys fought hard for a point on Saturday, at Stafford Rangers, and we’ll look to show those same qualities when we travel to Nantwich Town this weekend.
We know that it’s going to be a tough game there; we know that they’ve always been a good side. They proved that when they came to us in December.
A lot of people are saying that they’re the best side we’ve faced this season and they wouldn’t be far wrong.
If we’re on our game, though, and working hard as ever, we can go there and get something positive from the game.
Tuesday night proved how crazy this division can be, though, with some strange results.
Skelmersdale United lost out at home 1-0 to Ashton United – who saw that coming? You’ve got to feel for them there.
Once over, they were up towards the top end of the division, but they’ve really hit a rut and it’s a shame to see them sitting rock bottom.
It’s good to see Jermain Defoe back in the England set-up.
He has been excellent for Sunderland this year, and if you take him out of the equation for them, who have they got? It’s about time he returned.
I’d have liked to have seen Andy Carroll back in there though, I think he’s been excellent this year.
Sticking on a similar theme, I think that the FA is still in the stone age when it comes to developing talent and an identity for the English game.
If you look at how the Germans are setting their game and teams up, and how they have since the FA as good as handed them a blueprint in the early 2000s, they’ve become a model for everyone to aspire to.
They’re playing some good. They’re well organised, well drilled and play some excellent football, pushing out from the back. The FA need to look at it and try to implement something similar.
I’m backing Chelsea to win the Premier League this season. They’ve got a top quality side and are playing some excellent football.
Making up the rest of the top four, in my opinion, will be Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Liverpool. They are all excellent sides.
I’d like to see Manchester United break into there, probably at the expense of Liverpool. As I’ve talked about in previous columns, I think they are a very good side and Mourinho is doing a good job, but it may be just a bit too soon for them yet.
