LEALHOLM’S hopes of winning the League Cup on Wednesday night were dealt a blow when opponents Lingdale United scored three goals in quick succession to destroy any hopes of a comeback.
The East Cleveland side led after six minutes with a cross-cum-shot from former Whitby Town junior Bob Ovington but Lealholm levelled when Tom Raw was brought down and Duncan Marson levelled from the spot.
Lealholm took the lead when Mike Thompson beat the offside trap, rounded the kepper and tapped home but an own goal meant the sides went into the break at 2-2.
Lingdale took the lead early in the second half thanks to a second from man of the match Ovington and Lealholm were very much in contention until a burst of goals from James Swan, Wayne Skelton and skipper Andy Smith took the advantage up to 6-2.
Thompson’s injury-time second was merely a consolation.
