Plucky Sleights face fight to avoid wooden spoon

Despite a plucky display from Rob Winspear’s Sleights seconds side, Seamer took the Scarborough and District Saturday League third division title with a narrow win, last Saturday.

Gary Walters smacked in a left-footed shot on 11 minutes to put the hosts in front, and just before half-time a powerful volley from Matty Dawson doubled Seamer’s lead.

However, Jim Niel pulled a goal back for Winspear’s men after the interval, but man of the match Walters restored the two-goal lead after beating keeper Dave Fish to a through ball.

Marc Kipling reduced the deficit once again but Seamer held on to secure the title.

Sleights Reserves now face a winner-takes-all clash to avoid the wooden spoon this Saturday at second-bottom Commercial.
