Park smash six past title-holders

FISHBURN under 11s hosted a useful Redcar Athletic team and ran out comfortable winners thanks to some clinical finishing.

Redcar are no mugs and won the third division title last season, playing good passing football but Park dealt with the threat brilliantly throughout.

The Whitby side took the lead five minutes in when Fergus burst past his marker and smashed his shot high into the roof of the net from a tight angle.

Number two followed shortly after. Ward-Hepburn drove a shot against a post and the rebound fell to Gibson to finish from close range.

Redcar’s main threat came from the right wing and Cruz had his work cut out to keep them at bay which he did well for the most part.

The visitors got some reward for some persistent play down the right when a quick throw-in caught Park napping, again a shot smashed from a tight angle into the roof of the net gave keeper Humble no chance.

The next five minutes were keenly contested with chances at both ends.

Redcar were clean through on one occasion only for the pacy Fishburn backline to intercept the final shot.

Park then killed the game off as a contest with two quickfire goals. Hansell burst through the heart of midfield and put in a super pass for Swales who slotted into the corner. This was followed up with another Fergus strike for 4-1 at half-time.

The second half was all Fishburn and there was some excellent interchanges down the left, getting in behind the defence time and again.

Gibson fired in a wonderful cross from one move which Ward-Hepburn poked round the post at full stretch, with Fergus waiting behind him. But Ward-Hepburn redeemed himself with a quality ball in for the onrushing Fergus who finished in style.

Hambley then sped clear of the defence and unleashed a rocket from 20 yards which just shaved the bar.

Hansell then got his reward for a lung-busting midfield display with the sixth goal and a deserved win against a team who will no doubt be at the top end come April.

Man of the match: Hard to look past a hat-trick hero but we will - Rory Hansell – a bit of everything today.
