Park see off strong Stokesley team

FISHBURN Park’s under 13s got off to a flying start to the season with a very good win against a strong Stokesley team.

The Whitby side were out of the blocks quickly and were soon creating good scoring chances.

Within the first five minutes, Gibson had a glorious chance flash before him from two yards out but he failed to connect.

Swales then had a shot blocked and Ward-Hepburn poked one just wide of the post.

Just as Park began to wonder if they would rue the misses, Gibson unleashed a right foot effort from the edge of the box into the roof of the net for a well-earned lead.

The away team had pace up front though and the Park defence were strong to keep them out. But they did manage an equaliser from a short corner which Park were slow to react to; a fine effort into the top of the net to leave Humble with no chance.

Park were always the stronger team though and at times, cut the visitors’ defence wide open with some lovely passing moves and regained the lead when Ward-Hepburn tucked one away from close range.

In the second half, Park again started brightly and Fergus went on a solo run from midfield and struck a beauty to make it 3-1.

Ward then had a 20-yarder well saved by the visitors’ keeper.

With five minutes left, Park ended up with a nervy finish to the game when Stokesley pulled one back, again another 20-yard effort into the roof of the net. But Park finished the game strongly with a couple more efforts from Fergus, Gibson and Hambley well saved by the keeper.

This was a good team performance with some cracking goals and some brilliant passing moves.

Man of the match: a few candidates - Sault, Fergus, Clennan to name a few but Cruz gets the nod with one of his best displays - cool on the ball and strong tackles meant nobody got past him all game.
