THIS was a disappointing start to the season, which the Fishburn boys will learn from.
A strong Kirkbymoorside team made the most of their big pitch and began the match very brightly, which Fishburn struggled to deal with.
Kirkby went 4-0 up inside 25 minutes before an Owen Grant free-kick found Jack Gale in the box who shot past the keeper to make it 4-1.
Just before the break, Will Richardson latched onto a Gale flick after Grant worked hard to win the ball in the middle and held off two defenders before slotting the ball into the net.
As Fishburn were gaining momentum, the break came too soon for them.
Despite some positive spells in the second half Kirkby went 8-2 up, although this could have been a lot more had it not been for some terrific saves from Kieran Purvis in goal.
Fishburn kept working hard, particulary Jamie Entwistle and were rewarded with a goal just before the end.
Marcus Atkinson made a great run from left back, dancing through four defenders, before setting up Jack Duckling who calmly finished the move to make it 8-3.
Man of the match: Kieran Purvis for a number of outstanding saves.
