No planks as Fylingdales see off Pirates

FYLINGDALES reached the last four of the McCains Cup in a fixture they were expecting to be one of their hardest of the season.

But ‘Dales were soon ahead when Jake Faichney took a gift goal after the Pirates’ goalkeeper fumbled the ball.

Against the run of play, Pirates equalised soon after from the penalty spot after Joe Faichney was harshly judged to have brought a player down in the box.

‘Dales were soon back in the lead when Jake Faichney hit the top right corner with a great shot from just outside the box.

In the second half, ‘Dales took full control of the game with Andrew Wardell next on the scoresheet after a mazy run.

And Jake Faichney completed his hat-trick with an overhead shot.

With the ‘Dales midfield of Chris Shardlow and Andy McGreavy in full control, the last 15 minutes were the best ‘Dales have played all season with Paul Watson and Andrew Hesleton both hitting the woodwork.

‘Dales completed the rout when Jake Faichney was brought down when clean through in the Pirates box.

Andrew Wardell took a finely-struck penalty to score the fifth goal.

This was easily the best performance from the ‘Dales who are now in the semi-final of the cup.

Manager Tommy Pearson put the fine win down to the lads not going out to the pub on Saturday night and was so chuffed, he bought the team a round after the game.

On Sunday, ‘Dales are back to league action.
