New boy Jordan Hickey’s joy at winning start at Blues
Jordan Hickey was impressive on his Whitby Town debut in Saturday’s 2-0 victory on the road at Matlock Town.
The 20-year-old, who joined the Blues on loan from Hull City, said he was happy with his performance, as well as the overall team showing.
“I was pleased with the performance,” said debutant Hickey.
“It was certainly an eye opener in terms of what I’m expecting here because it’s a lot different to Under-23 football.
“Before I joined Chris (Hardy) told me to prepare for a battle and I certainly felt I was in one in this game.”
Despite admitting the BetVictor Northern Premier is a much more physical league than the Under-23s level, Hickey stated that he likes to think of himself as a physical player.
“I like to think that I’m quite a physical player,” Hickey said.
“You don’t always get that playing for the Under-23s so I was relishing that in this game and I’d like to think that I stepped up to the level.
“When both sides are getting stuck in I enjoy it and it makes for a good game of football so I should enjoy playing at this level.”
