New Blues deal for stalwart Macca
Long-serving midfielder Dave McTiernan has signed a new contract at Whitby Town.
The 31-year-old, who re-joined the club for a second spell in 2010 and has made more than 350 appearances in a blue shirt, put pen to paper on the two-year deal on Monday.
“Since I came to the club Macca has been very positive both in terms of his attitude and his performances on the pitch,” manager Chris Hardy said.
“When you’re building a team it is very important to get the make-up right. As well as young, up-and-coming talent you also need good players with experience and Dave gives us that.
“He’s in great shape at the moment and I’m confident that we can get another two good years out of him.”
McTiernan is the fourth member of the Blues’ playing staff to agree a two-year contract in the close season after goalkeeper Shane Bland, striker Mikey Roberts and player-coach Lee Bullock signed up earlier this month.
And Hardy says that he is hard at work trying to finalise his squad for next season sooner rather than later.
“This is my busiest time of the year by a long way, and there is a lot going on, we are speaking to a number of people at the moment,” he added.
“All being well I will have the majority of my squad sorted out and in place by the end of this month.”
