Whitby Fishermen sealed a spot in the NRCFA Saturday Challenge Cup semi-finals with victory over Itis Itis Rovers

Mark Storr’s side booked their place in the last four of the competition following a second-half surge against their tiring third division opponents.

Paul Tose opened the scoring for the hosts after finishing neatly when one-on-one with the Rovers keeper.

Their lead was doubled when Karl Storr showed great composure to lob home to ensure they led 2-0 at the break.

It was soon 3-0 when Dan Smith fired in from the edge of the box, but the away side rallied and hit back to reduce their deficit.

The result was then put beyond doubt when Sam Russell finished neatly after being put through on the keeper, before Dave Welham’s free-kick rounded things off at 5-1.

Boss Storr singled out midfield trio Steve Swales, Jordan Purvis and Tose as his side’s star men.

Fishburn Park Reserves were edged out by Division Three rivals Eastway Sports in their Frank White Trophy quarter-final.

The away side flew out of the traps and after winning the ball deep in Eastway territory, Jack Kipling found the back of the net to stun the hosts and hand his side a 1-0 advantage.

That lead wasn’t to last long as Eric Hall took advantage of a fumble by the Park keeper before tapping into the empty net to make it 1-1 after just five minutes.

While it looked like the game would be something of a goal-fest, the home side had to wait until the 83rd minute to get their winner.

Hall latched onto man of the match Andy Dennis’ long throw-in and smashed into the bottom corner with his left foot to seal Eastway’s spot in the semi-finals.

Diego Romero-Martin was named Fishburn’s man of the match.

On Sunday, Fylingdales slipped to a 4-1 home defeat to West Pier in Division One.
