Lealholm throw spanner in United’s title hopes

LEALHOLM threw a spanner in the works of Boosbeck United’s hopes of taking the league title.

Lealholm opened the scoring on 20 minutes when the ball was won in midfield, Kev Brown made a great run to beat the offside call and squared for Anthony Morgan to score.

Boosbeck were not at their best and struggled to get a foothold in the game while Lealholm were firing on all cylinders, winning the ball well in midfield, challenging well and players were getting forward to get strikes on goal.

In the second half, Lealholm opened up well again and increased the lead after 50 minutes.

Kevin Brown chased a ball out wide on the left, Boosbeck defence failed to win the ball and Brown got in a low cross for Phil Brown, who had made a great run from the halfway line.

He struck the ball from the edge of the area, to place his shot just on the inside of the post.

Midway into the half, Boosbeck raised their game and put the home side under pressure, resulting in Lealholm conceding a penalty on 70 minutes, which Shane Breckon calmly stroked into the net.

Within five minutes, Boosbeck hit back with another goal when Ryan Pebbles was on hand to turn the ball into the Lealholm net to level the score.

Boosbeck piled on the pressure but the home defence stood firm, denying the league leaders valuable points at the top of the table.

Kevin Brown was man of the match for Lealholm while Mike Lamb claimed the honours for Boosbeck.
