Late penalty gives Park the points

Fishburn Park 3

After last week’s disappointing result against Thirsk Falcons, Fishburn Park bounced back with a victory against second placed BEADS FC.

In strong crossfield wind both teams struggled to settle early on, but the hosts broke the deadlock after 14 mins when Jack Wilson’s left foot drive rifled into the top corner to put his side ahead.

BEADS levelled when they were awarded a free-kick just outside the penalty area. Carl Lilley bent the ball round the wall, giving keeper Watson no chance.

Fishburn had to call up reinforcements in Ben Watson, Owen Grant and Nathan Storr to cover an injury crisis and it was Ben Watson who restored Park’s lead, latching onto a weak back pass and slotting past the onrushing keeper on 38 minutes.

Once again, Beads replied minutes later.

Thomas Jones’s shot took a wicked deflection and despite a brave effort to turn the ball over the bar by Watson, it found the back of the net.

The second half was tight with both teams defending well but the game burst into life in the last five minutes when BEADS had a player sent off for stamping on home striker Faichney as he lay on the ground.

The free-kick was floated into the area and Fishburn for a foul, with Jack Wilson stepping up to fire home and seal the three points.
