Fishburn Park exited the North Riding Senior Cup at the hands of Grangetown BC in a five-goal thriller.

The game was only five minutes old when Grangetown took the lead when M Wilson’s overhead kick rocketed into the roof of the net.

Their lead lasted only minutes when Fishburn levelled as Rich Lane’s pinpoint cross was headed home by Mark Waterfield.

The game’s early goal scoring continued as C Smith slotted home after 20 minutes.

Fishburn had cause for complaint when Liam Beckett was clean through on goal but was hauled down from behind – both the referee and linesman claiming to be unsighted.

Beckett had to leave the field injured. Park had to wait until 75 minutes before Mark Waterfield crashed home from 25 yards to equalise.

Fishburn were heading for a penalty shoot-out when the visitors were awarded a penalty in the dying minutes, with M Ward slotting home the winner in a cruel end to a valiant effort by the home side.
