Hot-shot Lucas Cooper leads Scalby Under-16s to home win against Huntington

Scalby Under-16s continued their impressive start to the season and stayed top of the York Youth League season thanks to an 11-0 victory at home to Huntington Rovers.​

The league’s top scorer Lucas Cooper opened the scoring after eight minutes before Brody Hepples slotted home a second courtesy of a slick pass from Archie Pickup.

The Otters added three more before the break including a terrific towering header from captain Toby Robinson, along with efforts from Cooper and Calum Best. Pickup, Harry Coles, Ed Hughes and Adam Perrin (2) added more in the second half.

Huntington had a number of good chances but a fine stop from Lewis Moseley denied them a goal before Cooper completed his hat-trick.

Scalby Under-14s also earned a 3-2 win at Poppleton Tigers in the York Youth League first division.

After a scrappy start to the match, Poppleton took the lead with a simple side-foot finish as the defence struggled to clear their lines.

The second half saw the hosts double their advantage with a corner curling directly into the net.

A quick counter-attack soon got Scalby back in the game as an accurate lay-off from Laurie Davenport found Luca Mollica, who slotted the ball past the keeper.

A route one ball from goalkeeper Alex Murray set up Freddie Fletcher to slide the ball past an onrushing keeper.

Man of the match Fletcher then grabbed the winner in the final 10 minutes, as Spencer Taylor played a fantastic through-ball for him to outpace the defence.

The result was even more impressive as the squad has been struck down by illness and had players nursing knocks.

A resilient Scalby Under-15s earned a 5-3 win at Eastfield to book their place in the Scarborough Minor League Cup semi-finals.

There was a brace for both Theo Dickinson and Max Baldwin, the latter having scored nine goals in five matches.

Scalby took the lead inside the first two minutes with a wonderful long range strike into the top corner from Theo Dickinson.

In a frantic opening 10 minutes Eastfield equalised only for Dickinson to restore Scalby’s lead. Eastfield levelled again before in-form striker Max Baldwin made it 3-2. Baldwin turned provider for Finlay Mallinson to give Scalby a two-goal lead before half-time.

Second half saw Baldwin ran on to finish a fine long pass from Kobi Malone giving Scalby a 5-2 lead.

Man of the match Nik Smith produced two fine saves to keep Scalby’s lead, but Eastfield grabbed a third late on.
