Hinderwell hotshot Beth Mead is “over the moon” to have won Sunderland’s young player of the season award.
The 20-year-old, joint top scorer so far in the FA Women’s Super League, said it was extra special as it was voted for by the supporters.
Beth and the rest of the female Black Cats are doing well in their maiden campaign.
“The season so far has been pretty successful for us,” she told the Gazette this week.
“As a team, we were favourites along with Bristol to be relegated but we are currently fourth in the league after three wins and three losses.
“It has been a tough season so far but we are enjoying the challenge and learning as a team.
“We continue to take this progress into the second half of the season.”
She netted after just 25 seconds in a 3-0 win over Birmingham on Saturday.
