FISHBURN Park under 13s got back to winning ways with a fantastic performance against Cayton.
New signing Lewis Brearley has bolstered the Fishburn defence with his height and confidence on the ball.
Fishburn played against the wind in the first half creating chances early on, the best coming from Callum Halley’s hard work in centre midfield and pass to Jamie Entwistle.
Entwistle turned on the edge of the box, picked his spot and showed impressive technical ability to lob the keeper.
Cayton had many opportunities in the half to score but only succeeded on one occasion, a lapse in concentration after a free-kick.
Solid defending by Nathan Foster, Marcus Atkinson, Owen Grant and Brearley plus some great stops by keeper Kieran Purvis kept the score 1-1 at the interval.
Fishburn had a perfect start to the second half. Halley’s strong run down the right wing was completed with a good cross into the box, Will Richardson managed to squeeze between the defender and keeper to poke the ball into the net.
Despite dominating play, Fishburn let the lead slip again after failing to clear their lines at the back.
Fishburn, however, raised their game and retook the lead immediately after the restart.
This time, Grant’s strong run down the right wing and cross into the box was met by Richardson.
Richardson’s outstretched foot was instrumental in directing the ball into the net.
A tense final 15 minutes followed but it was Grant who sealed victory for Fishburn Park when his cross/shot aided by the wind ended up in the back of the Cayton goal. It was a superb goal to top off his well deserved man of the match performance.
