STAITHES Athletic recovered from the loss of an early goal to run out impressive winners for their fourth win in a row.
Staithes keeper Sanderson was called into the action early, saving from Stuart Wise who was causing the home defence problems with his movement.
At the other end, Gilding was brought down in the box when rounding the keeper for what looked like a certain goal but the referee waved away the appeals for a penalty.
On 15 minutes, Staithes were caught napping at the back and Martin Nelson drilled the ball into the bottom right hand corner from a well-worked move.
However, the goal spurred the home side into life and from this moment on Staithes dominated the game with Martin Reed marshalling the back four well and Ryan Braithwaite and Jamie Thomson outstanding in midfield.
Top scorer Smithies got a deserved equaliser when he latched on to a Thomson through ball to finish smartly on 28 minutes.
Two minutes later, Smithies returned the favour when he laid the ball into the path of the onrushing Thomson who fired an unstoppable shot first time shot past the keeper to give the home side the lead.
With time running down at the end of the first half, James Armstrong seized on a mistake from the away keeper to give Staithes a 3-1 half-time lead.
The home side continued to press in the second half, going close on numerous occasions, but it was full back Gareth Shotton who sealed the win with a brilliant team goal scored when the overlapping full back fired a shot into the bottom left hand corner.
The goal of the game though belonged to Stokesley and John Bennett who, in the last minute, beat two Staithes defenders on the right before firing an unstoppable shot into the net from the edge of the box.
