Fishburn ladies keep up fine form

Fishburn ladies carried on their great progress with a win at Huntington.

They got off to a great start, looking to attack straight from kick-off.

Five minutes into the game, Sarah Wright found Louise Middlemas on the left wing, who avoided a couple of challenges before playing the ball to Sam Burrows on the edge of the area.

Burrows’ quick flick fooled the defender, causing her to mistime her challenge leaving the referee with no choice but to award a penalty.

Captain Wright stepped up and slotted a strong shot past the keeper making it 1-0.

Fishburn carried on battling against the strong winds although were unable to build on their lead, being denied by some solid defending and some great saves by the opposition keeper.

Huntington fought hard to get back into the game and came close in the 19th minute, only to be denied by a cracking save from keeper Denise Reddy.

The remainder of the half was evenly matched with both teams creating a number of chances only to be denied by determined defending.

The second half started in a similar manner with both teams attacking well, only to see chances spurned.

Fishburn’s persistence paid off in the 63rd minute when their keeper Reddy played a great ball into the feet of Deborah Reddy who ran with the ball before splitting the defence open with a perfectly placed through ball into the path of Burrows. Burrows did well to latch onto the pass before chipping the keeper from just inside the area, for 2-0. Huntington changed their formation, adding another striker to the game. Although this piled the pressure onto Fishburn, they remained very strong at the back and Nicola Hart made a goal line clearance.

This was a super team performance by Fishburn who played some fantastic football. Tyler Dukeson and Rachel Avery made their debuts.

Player of the match: Jenny Sedman.
