Fishburn Park ladies continued their winning start in their second game of the season with a 7-0 demolition of Brompton ladies.
Sam Burrows and Ruth Frances made an excellent upfront duo, with Frances getting off to a flying start, scoring twice in the first 13 minutes. Fishburn carried on battling to drive the ball forward but Brompton’s defence were holding a hard line.
In the 30th minute, Emma-Lee Orton made a sterling tackle, dribbling the ball through the defenders and laying it off to Charlotte Walker who scored with a powerful strike.
Shortly before half-time, Selina Marsay, making her Fishburn debut, got taken out by an agitated Brompton midfielder.
Fishburn’s Captain Sarah Wright stepped up for the free-kick and powered the ball into the top corner, leaving the Brompton players in awe.
Fishburn continued their attacking in the second half straight from kick-off and were rewarded with a goal eight minutes in, with Burrows scoring an athletic volley from a well-placed corner ball.
Defender Nicola Hart picked up an injury and was unable to continue; despite her absence the Fishburn defence remained strong, clearing every ball that came their way. Along with keeper Denise Reddy, they finished the match with a clean sheet.
Brompton’s keeper made several good saves throughout the game but was unable to stop a forceful shot from Lou Middlemas, who skilfully took the ball past three defenders and smashed it into the goal.
Deborah Reddy and Lois Harkin produced some excellent play between each other in midfield, playing the ball off to an eager Burrows who scored hersecond and Fishburn’s seventh goal of the game.
