Fishburn Park under 16s cruised into the final of the Schneider League Cup final on Sunday.

The boys went into the game as clear favourites after winning both league encounters 7-0.

The match was played on a smaller pitch to try to contain Fishburn’s passing style of play but the ploy backfired, as Fishburn were knocking the ball around nicely.

Hewison was upended just outside box after a good run. S Pike stepped up for the free- kick and a nice hit took a deflection before finding the back of the net.

Beaver and Idle worked a yard of space before Whitehead took over and calmly slid the ball under the onrushing keeper for his first of the season. A half clearance fell to a Holt striker who hit the ball cleanly from close range but Jinks made a fine save.

Lightwing’s crossfield ball put Clarkson in but his hit went just wide. Shrimpton was getting forward at every opportunity, stretching the home defence time after time.

A long clearance from Stokoe beat the Holt back four and Clarkson was in a 50/50 foot race with the keeper, he controlled the ball excellently before going around the keeper and finding an empty net. The half finished 3-0 and Fishburn in complete control.

Beaver and Stonehouse ran rings around the Holt midfield before S Pike’s ball into the box was met at pace by his brother B Pike who lashed the ball home with a superb finish.

Beaver made a superb overlapping run from Hewisons pass and his cross found S Pike who accurately guided the ball into the far corner.

Holt were becoming more and more physical and a crude tackle from behind ended Whitehead’s afternoon early with an injury.

The last goal of the game came after an excellent run from Graham resulted in a corner. B Pike’s lofted ball was met by the motoring Stokoe whose header nearly ripped a hole in the back of the net.

Fishburn remain on course for a treble. Their next game is a semi-final in the FA Minor Cup at home to Kirkbymoorside.

They need one point from two games against the same opposition to guarantee back-to-back league titles.

Men of the match: Luke Beaver and Spencer Hewison.
