AN ENGLAND footballer hailing from the Whitby area has been given a grant to help with her training.

Beth Meads who plays for the England junior side was handed a cheque for £100 this week by Matt Hewison from the Scarborough and District Sports Council.

It will be used to help pay for travelling costs to Middlesbrough where Beth plays for Middlesbrough Ladies.

Mr Hewison said: “We have a small grants fund for local organisations and individuals who want to apply for a bit of money.

“The reason we supported Beth is because she has had a grant previously and she is obviously a very talented football player and anything we can do to help her development is the least we can do.

“She is an England under 17s player and for us to have one of those in the borough is quite good for us.”
