DARREN KELLY: Dream start to life at Scarborough Athletic

To follow up our fantastic win over Whitby Town with a hard-fought win at a very strong Gainsborough side was incredibly pleasing.

We took a bit of time to get going on Saturday and had to change formation at the break as I wanted to try and get more bodies in central areas.

They’ll probably feel hard done by to lose the game, especially given they had a goal ruled out so late on.

Gainsborough are a strong side and I think they’ll push up the table as the season goes on - and they probably had more chances on goal on Saturday, but I believe we were better in possession.

I can’t fault the lads again - they all grafted throughout the 90 minutes and came away with a positive result again.

Winning is a habit - a mentality - and I want that to continue at Scarborough now so we can push on.

I’d like us to tighten up a bit at the back, but I was happy with the performance again and delighted to come away with the three points.

I sound like a broken record at the moment - but I have to sing the praises of Tommy Taylor once again after another superb performance.

I’ve seen all the goalkeepers at this level and worked with one of the best in the non- league in Michael Ingham, and I have to say Tommy is right up there with the best about.

He made some superb saves again on Saturday, especially the one right at the end after we’d scored our third.

But I have to say, although shot-stopping is his best quality, he has everything in his locker. His communication, ability to come and dominate his box and his distribution are all exceptional too.

Connor Thomson took his goal really well and showed great composure and I think he can continue this run of goalscoring form - especially if we can get him more of the ball - which I would like us to do.

We now go into another hugely important fixture at home against Mickleover Sports on Saturday.

I’d really like us to make the Flamingo Land Stadium a bit of a fortress - a horrible place to come where opposition players don’t want to play and know they’ll find a hostile and passionate atmosphere and backing.

I’d love to see a crowd similar to the turnout we saw for the Whitby Town game and hear the supporters really back the players again as it makes a big difference and really pushes the guys on.

If you’re planning on coming along, bring your friends or family members along with you and lets keep our momentum going with another win.

We picked up a few niggles on Saturday with Chris Dawson, Isaac Assenso and James Walshaw all picking up knocks.

We’ll have to monitor them this week and hope they’ll be good to go come Saturday.

We’re also assessing Harry Coates and Wayne Brooksby, who I can’t wait to have back in the fold.

I’ve worked with Harry before and he’ll be like a new signing when he’s back in.

I’m also keen to see Wayne operate back in his best position further forward when he returns from his knee injury.
