LINGDALE United won the final of the Scarborough and District FA Junior Cup in an end-to-end clash with Lingdale United at Whitby Town’s Turnbull Ground.
Loftus took the lead in this Friday night floodlit game after 39 minutes when Stuart Oswald latched onto a superb through ball from defence by Tony Sivills to hit an 18-yard right foot shot into the bottom corner.
A minute before half-time Lingdale were level when Wayne Skelton’s 20-yard shot was blocked by a Loftus defender. The ball rebounded to Liam Allanson who scored with a 16-yard shot.
The second half remained end-to-end, with both sides missing good chances.
The winning goal arrived when Liam Allanson set up James Swann who raced clear of the defence and coolly slotted the ball past Loftus keeper David Verril from just inside the penalty area with a quality finish.
The game was a credit to the competition and played in a most sporting manner in front of a crowd of 286.
The cup and individual trophies were presented to the teams by Malcolm Jones on behalf of the sponsors The Jones Partnership of Pickering.
