It may be stating the obvious, but we’ve really missed a Mikey Roberts firing on all cylinders this season.
If you look at our goal difference, it’s clear to see we don’t score enough.
We have a solid defence and don’t concede too many goals, but we’re lacking the killer touch in the final third that a lot of our play warrants.
Our top-scorer is Dale Hopson from midfield with 19, which says it all really.
Mikey has been away with Guisborough and he’s back with us now, and he’ll go straight back into the squad for the Stourbridge game this weekend.
If he can come back in and find his goalscoring form then that would be a massive, massive boost for us, if he can’t then we’ll have to look at things as we need to be more clinical in the final third.
Approaching the end of the season, we really need to start making sure we take advantage of other sides dropping points and start to sneak ahead in the table.
It seems to me that every time we win, the other sides around us do likewise.
When our rivals at the top of the table slip up, we can’t seem to take advantage and pick up the points.
If we can get our house in order and start to be more consistent, we’ll take points off our rivals and be in a good position to secure a play-off spot.
Saturday’s result was incredibly frustrating as we should’ve been further ahead heading in at half-time.
We had a great two-on-one situation that we spurned, and Danny McWilliams went one-one-one and couldn’t score, and that came back to haunt us.
Looking ahead to Stourbridge, they’ll be a very strong, solid side, much like most who operate at this level.
We have a clean bill of health, so we have no excuses.
