CHRIS HARDY: We need to get out of this rut

It goes without saying that we were all left incredibly disappointed by the 1-0 defeat against Bamber Bridge on Saturday.

The first half was incredibly flat - we just didn’t get going.

We asked for a reaction at half-time and we got something from the players but it was that age old problem we’ve had of not being able to put the ball in the back of the net.

We’ve missed a few decent opportunities and one fantastic chance to put the ball in the back of the net and once again it’s cost us.

The game was there for the taking really and we could’ve got something from it - which adds to the frustration.

We’ve also lost Shane Bland to injury late in the contest - and I think it goes without saying that that is a hammer blow to us.

Shane is an exceptional goalkeeper who has everything in his locker and we’re all hoping that he’ll be back and ready to play again sooner rather than later as we head into what can be an unforgiving festive run of fixtures.

It looks like the injury isn’t as bad as we first feared, so we’ll assess him this week and hopefully he’ll be back between the sticks soon.

Bradley Mills also had to come off during the Bamber Bridge game as he was suffering with shin splints.

There’s not an awful lot you can do with shin splints so he could be missing for a game or two - which would again be a huge blow.

We’ve got to get out of this rut as quickly as possible now as we have some tough games coming up very quickly - starting at Witton this Saturday.

That is followed quickly by our big Boxing Day game at home to South Shields.
