CHRIS HARDY: Wary of cup shock at Penistone Church

The FA Cup First Qualifying Round draw sees us travel to Penistone Church next weekend.

The draw, on paper, has been kind to us in the fact that it has pitted us against opposition two leagues below us.

However, we will not be taking anything for granted.

We will go there with the intention of doing a professional job.

The game will be viewed as a cup final by our opposition, and we have to deal with that and a change in the facilities that we’re used to.

Penistone are going to do all they can to pull off a shock.

I thought that Tuesday night’s game saw us up against a good Altrincham side who will be there or thereabouts when it comes to April.

From the outset, our hosts went about their game plan of attacking our back line at any opportunity and did so very well.

That being said, we were happy with our levels.

On a different night, with that performance, we’d have beaten teams in this league. The quality of the opposition was evident.

We have now switched our focus to a big weekend for us, in which we look to kick start our season properly.

We should have a clean bill of health going into Saturday at least, with a full squad set to travel to Grantham Town.

Saturday’s hosts, as we know, will be a tough challenge for us.

In my time here they’ve become a bit of a bogey side for us, but we need to put that to the back of our minds on Saturday.

They are a compact side who will look to stifle our passing play and we have to look to combat that as best we can.

Workington brings a different challenge. They are a better footballing side and we will be back on familiar territory at the Turnbull Ground.

We will be looking to maximise our home advantage to gain maximum points.
