Broken leg mars Sleights’ first win of season

SLEIGHTS FC picked up their first official points of the season on Saturday after a 4-2 win over Seamer Sports Reserves, at Caedmon School.

It comes as a relief for Sleights after their 9-1 win over FC Filey the previous week was chalked off after their opponents’ withdrawal from the Scarborough and District Saturday League.

However, this week’s win was also tainted by more bad news. After scoring twice, striker Ben Alston was taken to hospital with a suspected broken right leg, following a collision with the Seamer goalkeeper, just before half-time.

However, the marksman insisted his team-mates finish the match. They held out for all three points and are now looking ahead to a fund-raiser for their injured forward.
