STAITHES never looked back after taking the lead to claim bragging right in this coastal derby on Saturday.

James Rice received the ball wide on the left of 18-yard box and opened the scoring on 18 minutes.

Both sides fought well for the ball, but no further chances were created and Staithes held the advantage at the break.

Staithes doubled their lead five minutes into the second half. A cross from the left was partially headed clear to edge of the box and Craig Marsay ran onto the ball and his shot found the bottom left corner of the goal.

Goldsborough reduced the arrears on the hour. Rob Clark received ball at the edge of 18 yard box and he passed the ball to Ryan Roe to shoot past the stranded Staithes keeper.

Staithes edged in front again two minutes later as a ball from the left wing was missed by two Goldsborough defenders and Steve Starsmore scored from close range.

Goldsborough had a late rally and on 85 minutes, Ryan Roe’s free-kick from 20 yards flew in but Staithes held on.
