BORO JUNIORS: Skelton double sinks Rangers

In their previous meeting, it was a very close affair and this game was going to be very similar.

Boro started the game with an experimental 3-4-3 formation, which the lads adapted to comfortably.

The back three of Owen Darrell, Tom Bramham and Matty Stanley, looked formidable.

Wing-backs James Skelton and Reo Smith got forward as much as possible and tracked back when required.

The centre midfield pairing of Dylan Priestley and Aiden Thurston controlled the middle of the park extremely well and the front three of Owen Wilson, Sam Pattison and Tom Collins always looked a threat.

Scarborough took the lead halfway through the first half when Collins rounded the keeper and side-footed the ball home.

Changes quickly followed when Regan Dove and Tom Brackenbury replaced the midfield pairing and James Cullen came on as part of the back three with Jayden Rodgerson coming on in the wing-back role.

Numerous attacks from both teams followed with no success for either side, which left the half-time score at 1-0 to the Boro youngsters.

Into the second half Scarborough were playing some good football and were looking for their second goal to widen their narrow lead.

This came from some good work down the left hand side, a goalmouth scramble ended with the ball being put into the net by one of the opposing defenders to hand the home side a 2-0 advantage.

Scarborough were now controlling the game, leaving goalkeeper Tom Cammish with very little to do.

However, when needed he pulled off a spectacular save, tipping the ball over the bar from a rare long distance effort.

Skelton was then put into a more advanced role and this paid off as Boro were rewarded with him scoring two fantastically-taken goals.

Both of Skelton’s efforts found the bottom right-hand corner of the net, leaving the Under-16s with a very well-deserved 4-0 win and lifting them above their opponents in the league.

Scarborough Athletic Under-12s are looking to appoint a new manager for the 2017-18 season.

The club are also giving trials for new players ahead of that campaign.

Meanwhile, Boro’s Under-14s are looking to boost their squad numbers for the final stages of this season.
