The victory is the Seasiders’ second of their pre-season campaign and leaves them unbeaten in three games following last week’s win over Marske United and Saturday’s draw with Bishop Auckland.

Pickering, who ply their trade two divisions below Whitby in the Northern Counties Premier Division and included ex-Blues Ryan Blott and Denny Ingram in their squad, made a decent start to proceedings but fell behind after a quarter of an hour.

Defender Kieran Weledji was the man who put the visitors ahead at Mill Lane, rising to head home from a corner and registering his second goal in as many games.

Chris Hardy’s men took their advantage into the interval and there were no more goals until Danny McWilliams blasted home a free-kick in the closing stages for 2-0.

The Blues’ next and final pre-season fixture is at home to Scarborough Athletic on Saturday, 1pm kick-off at the Turnbull Ground.
