Whitby Town have signed goalkeeper Joe Fryer on loan from Middlesbrough ahead of Saturday’s Evo-Stik Premier Division clash with Stamford.

Fryer, 19, is expected to feature for the Blues after regular gloveman Shane Bland limped out of Wednesday’s draw with Ramsbottom having injured a hamstring.

Joining Fryer in the Town squad will be Lee Mason who could be involved for the first time this season having recovered from a knock.

Defenders Ibby Hassan and Richard Pell are also expected to return to Whitby’s squad after missing out in midweek.

Lincolnshire-based opponents Stamford claimed their first points of the season with a surprise 3-1 victory at Halesowen Town on Tuesday night.

The Daniels, who avoided relegation on the final day of last season by a single point, lost 6-3 at Nantwich Town on the opening day and went down 4-3 after leading 3-1 against Ashton United, last weekend, after having three players sent off.

Blues boss Darren Williams has told his players that they need to start taking their chances if they are to end a run of three games without a win.

“Not taking our chances has cost us dearly in our two most recent games,” he told the Whitby Gazette.

“Overall, the performance at Matlock on Saturday was brilliant. We dominated from start to finish but just couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net and unfortunately that’s what wins you football matches.

“The same thing happened against Ramsbottom on Wednesday night, and while I’m pleased with how we played in the second half, we are again left frustrated because we haven’t scored when we’ve had chances.”

Kick-off at the Turnbull Ground is at 3pm, with admission still just £3 for under-18s, while under-16s get in for free when accompanied by an adult paying the £9 full price charge. Supporters can also pick up the first edition of the relaunched for 2015-16 club fanzine.

The Seasiders then travel to West Yorkshire on Bank Holiday Monday for another 3pm start.

Darren Williams’ men twice drew 1-1 with hosts Frickley Athletic, last term. The corresponding clash at Westfield Lane saw towering centre-half Richard Pell netting for the Seasiders on Boxing Day.

A supporters’ coach will leave the Turnbull Ground for Frickley at 11.30am on Monday, contact chairman Graham Manser on 07966 241344 to book a place.
