Whitby Town have completed the signing of former Middlesbrough forward Scott McCarthy.
The 19-year-old, who can play as either a striker or a winger, goes straight into the squad for Saturday’s Evo-Stik Premier Division opener against Stourbridge.
Blues boss Darren Williams said he was happy to have captured McCarthy’s signature.
“We’re really pleased he has chosen to come here,” Williams told the Whitby Gazette.
“Scott’s a big strong lad, who has pace and is very good technically.
“It’s fantastic to have him on board, he adds quality to the squad and provides extra competition for places which is exactly what we need.”
Newcastle-born McCarthy joined the Teessiders’ academy at the age of 16 and played regularly for the club’s under-21 side before being released earlier this summer.
Commenting on his move, McCarthy wrote on Twitter: “Happy to sign for Whitby Town. Looking forward to the season”.
