Blues hope to Cook up east coast derby triumph

WHITBY Town travel down the coast to face Mitch Cook’s Bridlington Town on Tuesday (2 Aug) night, writes Andrew Snaith.

Cook starred for Whitby under Harry Dunn where he was part of the 1996-97 FA Vase and Northern League winning side and later had a spell as Dunn’s assistant.

Ex-Blues Ged Dalton, Wayne Aziz and Josh Greening are all set to feature for the hosts, who finished third in the Northern Counties East Premier last season, ahead of Pickering Town (7th) and Scarborough Athletic (10th).

The Blues beat Cook’s old club Pickering 3-0 a fortnight ago and another Pikes old boy, Chris Batchelor, is set to return for Whitby after missing Saturday’s defeat through cricketing commitments.

Defender Kev Burgess, who was absent with work, will also be back in contention, though goalkeeper Dave Campbell is still five weeks away with an ankle injury.

Brid have beated local sides Edgehill 2-1 and Hutton Cranswick 6-0 so far this summer, but came unstuck against Northern League First Division Bishop Auckland. Their season starts with a trip to Maltby Main this weekend.

Kick-off at Queensgate is 7.45pm and the Blues conclude their pre-season campaign this Saturday (6 August) when Blue Square North side Eastwood Town are the visitors.
