Blues hit by friendly cancellation

Whitby Town’s preparations for the new campaign have been dealt a blow after their final pre-season friendly was cancelled.

Kendal Town pulled out of Saturday’s scheduled fixture at the Turnbull Ground, late on Friday afternoon.

It is understood that the Cumbrians are unable to raise a side for the match due to a freak injury crisis at the club.

The Seasiders’ Evo-Stik Premier Division season gets underway when Stourbridge visit the Turnbull in just eight days time.

A frustrated Darren Williams said that it was unlikely that the Blues would be able to arrange alternative opponents to take Kendal’s place, such was the short notice the club received.

The Blues chief had planned to use the fixture as an opportunity to cast his eye over a couple of as yet unseen trialists, while also giving a number of his squad the chance to gain some crucial game time ahead of the start of the competitive action.
